Digital processor amplifier which is the core system of S-Class Sound Suite has the brand new function "Car automation function". It automatically adjust sound settings for Driver, Co-driver and Rear-passenger = "V.I.P.".  
E-Class Sound Suite
"E-Class Sound Suite" is the high-end complete sound system exclusively developed for Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Front speakers named "The Suite Unison-Array" are full-range driver modules which contain dual 52mm wide-range driver with aluminum die-casting enclosure. Rear speakers named "The Suite Extend-Woofer" are additional woofer module. System itself is very simple, "Full-range + Additional woofer". Super full-range front speakers and Additional woofers are ideally balanced, and the cross-point is only one. These system architecture made possible to output high-quality and comfortable sound.  
Dealer option premium speakers for C-Class and E-Class
Separate 2way speaker system which contains 77mm woofer with aluminum hybrid enclosure and tweeter. Full enclosure system brings various advantages;

A smart phone application that enables a vehicle engine to be started from anywhere in the world.

By using the internet to access the vehicle it is no longer necessary to worry about the distance from the vehicle of the remote control engine starter.

(Major Functions)
- An iPhone functions as a remote control engine starter. As access is via the internet the engine can be started from anywhere in the world.
- Vehicle information such as interior temperature and battery voltage can be viewed on the iPhone.
- Images taken by an onboard camera (still images) can be view on the iPhone.
- Position of the vehicle can be mapped on the iPhone.
 
DriveMate SafetyCam
This is an application for smart phones designed to support safe and eco-friendly driving.
Images taken using an iPhone camera are used to calibrate the distance between the vehicle and any vehicle in front, and notify the driver.

(Major Functions)
- A warning alarm sounds when the vehicle in front suddenly gets closer, reducing the danger of a collision.
- In traffic jams and stationary situations the application notifies the driver when the vehicle in front moves off.
- The application provides an assessment of driving safety and eco-friendliness. It analyzes various data, including driving speed, as well as sudden movements, braking or turns, and also the distance between vehicles, providing a real time driving assessment from the perspectives of safety and eco-friendliness.

From now we plan on engaging in development of an application for use on commercial vehicles, such a taxis and trucks.
 
DriveMate EcoAccel
This is a smart phone application that assesses instantaneous fuel consumption and how hard the accelerator is being pressed.
Various information is acquired in a wireless environment from the “DriveMate Connect” dedicated module, which is linked to the OBD2 connector (*), and notified to the iPhone.

(Retrievable information)
- Display and recording of instantaneous fuel consumption in real time.
- Application monitors the pressure applied to the accelerator when moving off from a standing start, which has an impact on fuel efficiency, supporting smooth and eco-friendly driving. This helps drivers to gain fuel efficient driving skills.
- The drive data stored on the iPhone can be checked at any time.
- Even when driving without the application running, the dedicated onboard module can store approximately 15 hours of driving data.
* The OBD2 connector is fault diagnosis connector fitted as standard on vehicles. It can acquire various data about the vehicle.

Hitachi is capable of providing HEV/EV major components such as Inverter, motor and battery as a whole. Motor attains small size and high output with the combination of high density concentrated winding and compact connection structure. Inverter is small size and light-weight by integrating two inverter functions and auxiliary pump inverter into one unit, in addition, achieves high output and higher performance. The 3rd generation lithium-ion battery newly designed for hybrid passenger vehicles and start production from this year.  
E6103 U-Shin Ltd. Climate Control Panel with Flexible Wires
This is a manual Climate Control Panel with higher degree of freedom in the layout on vehicle by connecting the control unit and the rotating unit of HVAC side with flexible wires of loop type.
The loop type wiring can be equipped for both control units with dial operation and sliding operation.
With an HVAC unit having a rotating structure, it can be used with existing rotating dumper of HVAC. Also, as this product will be folded up into a compact (20mm x 20mm) size for delivery, cable routing can be placed in small space, and then fixed to HVAC in a one-touch operation.
 
Slim Manual Climate Control Panel
This is a Manual Climate Control Panel with small depth (approx. 59mm - similar depth as automatic climate control panel), providing excellent cable routing.
The structural part of lighting is made thinner by changing the night-time lighting to LED lamps. The helical gearing system is employed, allowing the cable routing direction to be positioned in both lateral and depth directions.
It can provide a layout with less resistance in cable routing even in small vehicle space.
 
Touch-pad Steering Switch
This is a steering switch simply composed of a touch pad using capacitance sensor and push-switches. It can operate various functions by selecting modes with the push-switches and by entering the state of large/small, up/down, etc. of the object with the touch pad.
Blind operation (operation without looking) is possible for the touch pad as it is only necessary to stroke its surface up and down. Also, as it detects the stroking direction, no function is actuated only by touching the surface, preventing errors.
The touch pad has the advantage of reliability and durability because it does not have any contact point.
 
Steering Switch with Multidirectional Entry
This is a New Feeling Steering Switch which audio operation and multi-information display operation are functionally integrated, featuring "Mode selection with function selection buttons" and "Selecting/Deciding of within the mode using a joystick."
Frequent operations in a mode are carried out by a single joystick which allows intuitive operation. Safety is improved by minimizing the hand and eye movements, and at the same time, degree of freedom in design is increased by saving space.
Also, the function changeover is shown by illumination helping to distinguish the function intuitively.
 
Contactless Neutral Switch
This is a contactless switch of bias magnet type using magnets and Hall ICs.
Contactless feature brings about lower operating effort comparing to the existing mechanical contact switch, having the advantage of durability and environment resistance such as waterproof, greaseproof, and dustproof.
It can be used under severe conditions such as detecting shift position (neutral or back position) of transmission, etc.
 
Non-contact Stop Lamp Switch、Non-contact Air Switch
Switches ON/OFF output signals without using mechanical contacts by detecting the change of magnetic flux density using Hall ICs according to the move of magnet. With the non-contacting feature, it can prevent conduction error caused by dust, water or grease that has been a problem with the conventional products. Also, durability improved as the mechanical wear caused by opening/closing of mechanical contacts and electrical wear caused by arc have been eliminated.
This structure can be applied for various applications other than the stop lamp switch and pressure switch. By selecting FET to be used, it meets the range from resistance load, solenoid load, through to lamp load.
 
Outer Handle with Built-in Antenna and Sensor
A high-operability touch sensor is employed and locking/unlocking by simply operating the touch sensor has been achieved. It can protect the built-in LF antenna and circuit part of touch sensor from breaking, against high load given to the Outer Handle when the door is frozen, even if the handle itself is warped. The antenna sensor ASSY consisted of substrate, ferrite, sensor electrode, and harness does not require any protective case to support each part, so that the number of parts can be reduced.  
Slim Electric Steering Lock
By employing "Bell crank method" for the pull-out mechanism of lock bolt, thinner figure(40.8mm) and short operation time(200ms) have been achieved, contributing to improving the degree of freedom in layout on vehicle and shortening the time from switching operation by user to engine start.
Also, by employing magnets and Hall ICs for detecting locking/unlocking state, both higher reliability and longer life have been achieved.

The car access system of next generation (ACAS : Advanced Car Access System) can interactively exchange information between a car and a key fob. Because of two-way communication, we can see the car information away from the car, such as from a house.
ACAS makes it possible to confirm a lot of car information, such like the in-car temperature, theft arrester, or charge status of EV or HEV.
In addition, ACAS makes it possible to operate various car's functions from smart-phone without the line fee.
 
Products for eco-vehicle
We have developed following items for eco-vehicles.
- BMU (Battery Management Unit) : BMU manages high voltage battery.
- CMU (Cell Monitoring Unit) : CMU monitors the voltage and the temperature of battery-cells. Our CMU is the world first mass production.
- Leakage detection sensor : Small leakage detection sensor with high accuracy.
- DC/DC converter : DC/DC converter supplies electricity to in-vehicle electrical parts from high voltage battery. Our DC/DC converter is low cost and high efficiency.
- Charger : Charger makes it possible to charge high voltage battery of a vehicle from household wall outlet.
Because the performances of these products make effects on cruising range and amount of battery (battery weight), we will enhance these performances continuously.
 
Multi Optical Sensor
Multi Optical Sensor is a integrated sensor which includes distance measure sensor (for collision warning), rain sensor (for auto-wiper), and illuminance sensor (for auto-light).
Now, these functions are equipped on luxury car. But, owing to Multi Optical Sensor, not only luxury car but also small car will have been able to install these functions with small space and low cost.

As a result of having repeated computer analysis and seal evaluation data, NSK developed the bearing with the high seal performance which prevented the invasion of the alien substance. This product enabled extension of life and the reliability improvement of ABS control system motors or the electric throttle control motors, and run control system motors of HEV and EV.
It is improvement more than ratio 10 times conventional by optimization of the length of the seal lip and a seal shape including the thickness and control the change of seal fitting change, and stabilizing seal lip anti-power and lip side pressure in seal characteristics of the bearing.
In addition, NSK control the rise of the bearing torque while increasing seal fitting to give seal performance and contribute to the consumption electricity reduction of the motor. Furthermore, this enables the minute control of the motor by suppressing the dispersion of the torque.
Silent Needle Roller Bearing for Automotive Electrical Components
 The ends of rollers (rolling element) in needle roller bearings used in automotive electric components are crowned (i.e. given a curved arc) to make the bearings able to withstand a heavy load. With the conventional crowing method, the roundness of the roller ends is inferior compared to the central part of the roller, resulting in loud noise from the bearing under conditions in which the roller has a large tilt. For this reason, in EVs and HEVs, in which the vehicle interior is extremely quiet, the operating noise of electric components that traditionally would not have been noticeable can disrupt the comfortableness of passengers.
NSK improved the roundness of the roller crowning by 1/4 compared to the conventional product by developing a high-precision machining method.
 The level of noise (sound pressure) generated by bearings was cut to no more than 1/3 that of the conventional product.
NSK Develops High-Reliability, Low-Torque Ball Bearings for Continuously Variable Transmissions
 There is demand to develop CVTs that offer even greater efficiency, with global prices for crude oil expected to rise and in order to meet tighter fuel efficiency standards. In addition, transmission oils are expected to become lower in viscosity and offer lean lubrication resistancein pursuit of better fuel efficiency, which will in turn necessitate bearings with higher reliability.
 The new bearings build on proprietary expertise that NSK has developed in the areas of special heat treatment, creep prevention, and bearing design, and incorporate a fiber-reinforced plastic cage to deliver two-and-a-half times the life of existing bearings.
 The use of a fiber-reinforced plastic cage reduces the agitation resistance of lubrication oil by as much as 30%, without significantly changing the rated capacity or size of the bearing.
Extremely Long Life EBR Ball bearing
 The extremely long life ball bearing developed for use in transmissions which achieved longer life by using strengthened rolling elements for surface originated flaking by contaminations in transmission oil. The products can reduce the bearing size about 50% (weight %) by using strengthened balls.
Thrust Needle Roller Bearing with raceway washers for oil flow control
 The outer race of the bearing is designed to improve the ease of flow of the AT oil into the bearing. Also, holes have been added in the cage to improve oil flow. As a result, oil penetration into the bearing is 1.5 times that of the conventional part. Optimizing the balance of oil supply in the AT unit in this manner makes it possible to reduce the size of oil pumps.
 The newly developed partial curl type race has an integrated design that partially holds the bearing components(roller, race, cage) and improves the inner clearance of the bearing, thereby improving the durability in regard to the concern of eccentricity(axial offset) that exists with integrated thrust needle bearings.
Ultra High-Speed Large-Diameter Ball Bearings
 The large-diameter ball bearings for hybrid car motors have an inner diameter of 160 mm and outer diameter of 190 mm, yet in spite of their size are capable of ultra high-speed rotation exceeding two million dmn, faster than any other ball bearing used for automotive applications.
 The superior features of this product, as detailed below, enable it to deliver ultra high-speed rotation.

Low Friction Hub Unit Bearing
 The column type EPS has the steering angle sensor which is used for vehicle stability control and so on. The angle sensor is usually inserted into steering wheel. That sensor space can be eliminated by integration with EPS and the angle sensor. That space benefit advances EPS penetration and also contributes the fuel consumption improvement because EPS can improve the fuel consumption compared with hydraulic power steering.
Column Type EPS with Steering Angle Sensor
 The column type EPS has the steering angle sensor which is used for vehicle stability control and so on. The angle sensor is usually inserted into steering wheel. That sensor space can be eliminated by integration with EPS and the angle sensor. That space benefit advances EPS penetration and also contributes the fuel consumption improvement because EPS can improve the fuel consumption compared with hydraulic power steering.  
Ball screw for regenerative braking system
 NSK has developed rolling process and heat treatment to suppress deformation of a screw shaft and abolished grinding process of the shaft grooves after heat treatment, which is a normal process, so that we have made it possible to mass-produce a thin and hollow ball screw.
It is adopted the NSK's unique mechanism to prevent balls from going a raceway other than its intended screw circuit and it helps to secure a high reliability for long periods.
 In addition, the ball screw is composed of a grind nut and a rolling shaft to reduce surface roughness and decrease the friction loss of the ball screw.
 These NSK's technology contributes to improve the controlled performance and achieves natural operation of a brake system.
