MAZDA SHINARI |
The Mazda SHINARI, appearing in Japan for the first time, is a pure design concept model of a four-door, four-seat sports coupe that perfectly expresses the ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design theme in a graceful and carefree form. The Japanese word shinari describes the powerful yet supple appearance of great resilient force when objects of high tensile strength, such as steel or bamboo, are twisted or bent. It also refers to the appearance of a person or animal as it flexibly transforms its body in preparation to generate a fast movement. The exterior form blends a strong backbone running through the body with a sense of sudden release of pent-up energy and the interplay of beautiful, supple movements. The interior explores a new approach of oneness between car and occupants with an ‘ultimate athletic space.’ The cockpit adapts to three distinct modes: ‘Business, Pleasure and Sport’. |

MAZDA CX-5 |
The CX-5 (due to go on sale in Japan in spring 2012) is the first vehicle of a new Mazda generation that will adopt the full range of Mazda’s breakthrough SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY and new design theme, ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’. The CX-5’s design simultaneously expresses SUV-like solidity and functionality as well as KODO’s characteristic vitality and agility. The SKYACTIV TECHNOLOGY delivers predictable and responsive handling for a high-quality, refined driving experience balanced with outstanding environmental and safety performance. Eco-friendly features include the SKYACTIV-D engine, which boasts the world’s lowest compression ratio of 14:0 and clears Japan’s Post New Long-Term Emissions Regulations without any expensive NOx after treatment technology, and i-stop, Mazda’s unique idling stop system with the world’s fastest engine restart of just 0.4 seconds. |

i-ELOOP |
The i-ELOOP regenerative braking system represents Step Two of Mazda’s technology development vision, the Building Block Strategy. The moment the driver lifts off the accelerator pedal a variable voltage alternator begins generating electricity at up to 25V before storing it in an Electric Double Layer Capacitor (ELDC). This electricity is used to power the vehicle’s electrical systems, such as the air conditioner, at times when he accelerator is depressed or when i-stop is functioning. As long as there is sufficient charge stored in the capacitor and battery, the system removes the need for the engine and alternator to generate electricity. As a result, engine power is increased by around 10% and fuel economy is enhanced. |
